Bulky item pickup around Boston compared: furniture, mattresses and appliances by city

Every city around Boston runs its own bulky item rules: some pick up furniture free with the trash, others charge per item, and mattresses and fridges usually have their own fee and booking step. This table puts the official City or Town program for Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Newton, Quincy and Somerville side by side. Each cell comes from the official page linked in it and shows when we last checked it. Where the official page doesn't state a fee, we say so instead of guessing.

City programs only cover residents the City collects trash for; many larger apartment buildings use private trash service. Check the "details" link for who qualifies. If the City option doesn't fit, each city page also lists charity pickups, drop-off spots, furniture banks and paid haulers.
