Quincy mattress pickup and disposal: how to book the free South Shore Recycle pickup
Quincy no longer collects mattresses on trash day. You book a pickup with South Shore Recycle instead, and it's free for Quincy homes, condos and buildings with 8 units or fewer. Here's how to book it, what it takes, and what to do if you're in a bigger building or need someone to carry it out.

This guide is one part of our Quincy bulky item hub, which lists all 12 Quincy options we've verified.
Does the City of Quincy pick up mattresses?Yes, through South Shore Recycle. Call (617) 837-1299 or book online. Mattresses are no longer picked up on your regular trash day and are scheduled by vehicle and staff availability.
Is Quincy mattress pickup free?Yes for Quincy residents in homes, condos or buildings with 8 units or fewer. South Shore Recycle charges $60 per unit for larger Quincy buildings (8+ units) and non-Quincy residents.
Will South Shore Recycle take the mattress from inside my apartment? No. It says all pickups are curbside only and it doesn't collect from inside units, hallways or common areas, so the mattress has to be outside before pickup.
Does Quincy pick up box springs?Yes. South Shore Recycle lists box springs and bed foundations of all sizes, including platform bases and adjustable base frames.
Can I put a mattress out with the trash in Quincy? No. The City says mattresses are no longer picked up on your regular trash day; schedule South Shore Recycle instead. Massachusetts has banned mattresses from the trash since November 1, 2022.
Step 1: book South Shore Recycle
The City of Quincy says to call South Shore Recycle at (617) 837-1299 or schedule a pick-up online, and that mattresses are scheduled dependent on vehicle and staff availability rather than on your trash day. South Shore Recycle's own site lists (617) 842-2434 (Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Info@SouthshoreRecycle.com, so try the other number if one doesn't answer.
Who gets it free, and who pays $60
South Shore Recycle says pickup is free for Quincy residents living in homes, condos or buildings with 8 units or fewer. For larger Quincy buildings with 8+ units and for non-Quincy residents, it charges $60 per unit. The City's own curbside program also covers only one- to eight-family dwellings and condominiums, and says apartment buildings with more than eight units must hire private disposal.
Step 2: put it outside before pickup
South Shore Recycle says all pickups are curbside only: place the mattress at the curb or a designated outdoor spot before the scheduled pickup. It does not enter homes or buildings and does not collect from inside units, hallways or common areas.
What South Shore Recycle takes
It lists twin through California king mattresses, including memory foam, gel, innerspring, hybrid, latex, pillow-top and drained waterbed mattresses, plus standard and low-profile box springs, split sets, platform bases, adjustable base frames and wooden foundations. It says it works with recycling facilities rather than landfills.
Need it carried out of the house?
ReSupply runs paid in-home pickups that include mattresses, with starting prices of $19, $49 and $99 plus a separate booking fee, and its Boston page lists Quincy among the communities it serves. LoadUp's Quincy page says junk removal starts at $80 for a single bulky item, and its mattress page lists removal from $85 with loaders carrying the mattress out from any room. Confirm the final price when you book.
Donating a mattress
Household Goods in Acton accepts standard-size mattresses and box springs but refuses any with stains or rips, and its volunteer pickup doesn't reach Quincy. The Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston ReStore does not accept mattresses or box springs.
